Common Dependent Care FSA Administrators
You don't choose your Dependent Care FSA administrator — your employer does, as part of selecting a benefits platform. But knowing who commonly administers these plans can help you find the right portal, app, or support line when you have a question about your specific account.
Companies that commonly administer FSAs
Some of the larger, well-known third-party administrators in the US benefits industry include:
- WEX
- HealthEquity
- Navia Benefit Solutions
- PayFlex (Aetna/CVS Health)
- Fidelity
- Optum Financial
- Discovery Benefits (a WEX company)
- ADP
This list isn't exhaustive, and it isn't an endorsement of any particular provider — plenty of regional and industry-specific administrators exist too. Check your benefits enrollment materials or pay stub for the name of your specific administrator, since rules, apps, and claim processes vary between them.
Questions to ask about your specific plan
Because plan rules are set by your employer within IRS limits, the same administrator can run very different plans for different employers. When you enroll, it's worth confirming:
- Does my plan issue a debit card for dependent care claims, or is it reimbursement-only?
- What's the deadline to submit claims for expenses incurred this plan year?
- Does my plan offer a grace period or run-out period, and how long is it?
- What documentation does the administrator require — itemized receipts, a signed provider statement, or both?
- How do I update my election if I have a qualifying life event?
- Is there a mobile app or online portal for submitting claims and checking my balance?
If you're an employer choosing an administrator
When evaluating administrators for your own plan, consider claims turnaround time, debit card availability, mobile app quality, customer support responsiveness, integration with your payroll and HRIS systems, and total administration cost.
